Running across Singapore, the 50km Cross Island Line (CRL) is targeted to complete by 2030.
The CRL is Singapore’s longest fully underground MRT line and the eight MRT line. When fully completed, it will serve western, eastern, and north-eastern residences, link the major hubs like Punggol Digital District, Jurong Lake District and Changi region.
The CRL will be constructed by LTA in three difference phases. Phase 1 is about 29 kilometres long, with 12 stations from Aviation Park to Bright Hill. It will serve industrial and residential areas such as Tampines, Loyang, Pasir Ris, Hougang, Defu, Ang Mo Kio and Serangoon North.
The CRL is an important portion of Singapore MRT network – it provide a faster commute between the west and the east. All the Singapore MRT lines with be connected to the CRL stations by interchanging stations.
For example, by using public transport, an Ang Mo Kio commuter can reach almost any where in Singapore with less than an hour, save up to 35 to 45 minutes of travel time. Residents in Pasir Ris will be able to travel directly to Punggol – in only 15 to 20 minutes, as compared to a 45 minute bus journey today.
The Florence Residences will also become more accessible by public transport through CRL1. CRL1 construction is expected to start from 2020 and be end by 2029.
